Meta is one of Apple’s main competitors in the mixed reality headset space, featuring the more affordable Quest series. Despite the significant difference in pricing (the Meta Quest 3 costs $499, while Apple’s entry-level Vision Pro costs a whopping $3,499), comparisons are inevitable. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared a video on Instagram in which he explained why he believes the Meta Quest 3 surpasses the Apple Vision Pro in every aspect.

Zuckerberg said the Quest 3 is good at serving “the vast majority of things people use mixed reality for.” He said Apple’s headphones are seven times more expensive than the Quest 3, claiming the Quest not only offers better value but is, in his opinion, a superior product overall.

Zuckerberg highlighted several advantages of Quest 3:

– He said the Quest 3 also has pass-through capture, just like the Vision Pro, allowing users to open multiple windows.

– Comfort is another important area where Zuckerberg believes his products are superior to Apple’s. He noted that the Quest doesn’t have any obstructive wires and is lighter, making it feel like it’s less on the face.

– He emphasized that the Meta has a wider field of view and a brighter screen, but Apple does offer a higher-resolution display.

– He mentioned that the Apple Vision Pro had a “motion blur when moving,” but the Meta Quest 3 stayed sharp.

– The Quest 3 has precise controllers that allow for a better gaming experience, something Apple products lack. In addition, he believes Meta can provide users with better hand tracking capabilities.

As parting words, Zuckerberg said: “Looking now, I know some fans get upset whenever anyone dares to question whether Apple will be the leader in a new field, but the reality is that every generation of computing has an open and Open space. A closed model. Yes, in mobile, Apple’s closed model won. That wasn’t always the case. If you go back to the PC era, Microsoft’s open model was the winner. In the next generation, Meta will Being an open model, I really want to make sure that the open model wins again. The future hasn’t been written yet.”

That said, Meta has a long history of producing headsets spanning multiple generations, including the Oculus Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3, and even the Quest Pro. Additionally, there are reports that Apple is developing a more affordable version of the Vision Pro for the mass market. It will be interesting to see the mixed reality race heat up quickly in the future. What is certain is that increased competition will lead to better products for consumers.
