Mel B recently shared the real reason why she and Eddie Murphy split in 2006.

The former Spice Girl revealed in her memoir, brutal honestythe relationship didn’t work out at the time because she “was too big of a star to make it work.”

“You know, he’s Eddie Murphy. I’m like: ‘Well, I’m Mel B!’” she said.

“If it doesn’t feel right, unequal, then what’s the point? Yes, Eddie Murphy is a superstar. In my eyes – the Spice Girls – and so am I,” the musician recalled.

Mel B wrote: “I have my own house, my own car, my own credit card. I don’t need to line up to be a pretty woman because I have my own life.”

“Eddie almost wanted to just leave. But I had my own career. I wouldn’t give up everything just for love… to be a housewife,” she said.

Mel B says: “There’s nothing wrong with being a housewife.”

“But it wasn’t my path. It was probably unfathomable to anyone at the time – why I would leave a relationship that was so loving, giving, almost nurturing,” the musician continued.

However, Mel B added, “I’m a strong independent woman, but things are not as equal as I would like.”

Meanwhile, Mel reveals in the book that she and Eddie have been together for nine months.

She even noted that Eddie made her happier than any man she had ever met, but Mel knew she would never like that and “be part of Eddie’s kingdom.”
