New Delhi:

The Enforcement Directorate has issued a fresh summons to Trinamool Congress leader and expelled Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra for questioning in the FEMA violation case as she did not appear on Monday, sources said.

He said the 49-year-old leader has been given a week’s time to appear before him as he had expressed his inability to testify to the agency.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) politician’s reaction was not immediately available.

The ED wants to interrogate Moitra and record her statement under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) after she gives her statement.

Sources said the transactions involving a non-resident external (NRE) account besides some other foreign remittances and transfers of funds in the case are under the agency’s scanner.

Ms Moitra is also being investigated by the CBI which is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the allegations against Moitra on a Lokpal reference.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Ms Moitra of asking questions critical of the Narendra Modi government in the Lok Sabha at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for gifts.

He had also accused Ms Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.

Ms Moitra has denied any wrongdoing.
