Mumbai police have arrested a 58-year-old man under the POCSO Act for allegedly raping his 19-year-old step-granddaughter in Maharashtra over the past 10 years.
Based on the survivor’s complaint, the police registered a case against the man under Sections 376 (2)(F)(N), 354, 354A, 323, 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and protection of children from offences. . Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
It was gathered that the accused threatened her with death if she shared the pain with anyone.
The complainant told the police that the accused, who lived in a neighbour’s house, often came to her house when she was alone and raped her. The grandfather had allegedly been sexually molesting the girl since 2014.
When she objected, he often beat her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone, a police officer said.
Fearing his threats, the girl never told anyone about her ordeal. However, she recently opened up to her parents, following which the girl and her family went to the nearest police station to register a complaint against him.
Acting on her complaint, the Kurral police conducted a search operation on the accused and arrested him from Virar in Palghar district, a police officer said.
