A major motorway in Kent was closed and traffic backed up for two miles as police feared a man.

Emergency services are on scene near Maidstone and motorists are advised to find alternative routes where possible.

A spokesman for Kent Police said they were called at around 11.45am after seeing “a man” between junctions 7 and 8.

This section of the highway is closed.

State Highways reported arrival delays of at least 45 minutes.
