A Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Madhya Pradesh was suspended after two people were allegedly beaten up on the road in his presence for overtaking his vehicle in Umaria district. MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the Bandhavgarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), saying “such behavior with the common man will not be tolerated in the state”.

CM Yadav wrote on microblogging site X, “After the incident of beating of two youths came to light, I have directed to suspend Bandhavgarh SDM. This is an unfortunate incident. There is a good governance government in the state. Such behavior with the common man will not be tolerated in the state.”

quoting officials a PTI The police have registered a case against Bandhavgarh SDM Amit Singh, Tehsildar Vinod Kumar, SDM’s driver Narendra Das Panika and Tehsildar’s assistant Sandeep Singh in connection with the incident that took place on the outskirts of Umaria town on Monday evening, the report said.

A video of the incident surfaced on social media in which two people are seen being beaten, allegedly in the presence of the SDM.

In the video, a group of people surrounded the SDM and beat him with sticks.

One of the victims, Prakash Dahiya, who suffered injuries on his head and elsewhere, claimed in his complaint that people in a vehicle with “SDM” written on it came out and beat him and another man, Shivam Yadav, for overtaking.

The SDM had earlier denied that the two men were attacked in his presence, claiming that one of them was driving a car recklessly and was about to hit his official vehicle. He said that his driver somehow avoided a collision between the two vehicles.

Amit Singh denied the involvement of the people traveling in his car in the attack on the two.
