Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are a matter of tension between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Congress party The Modi government has lifted 250 million people out of poverty.

Addressing a rally in Gadchiroli after BJP candidate Ashok Nath filed his nomination papers for Gadchiroli-Chimul (ST) constituency, Fadnavis listed out Achievements of the Modi government.

“This fight is not between Ashok Nath and the Congress, but between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. I ask you, the nation Should leadership be given to Modi or Rahul Gandhi?” he said.

Congress party’s Namdev Krisan is up against sitting MP Nete.

Voting will be held in Gadchiroli-Chimur in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in eastern Maharashtra’s Vidarbha district on April 19.

Mr. Fadnavis also said that Modi had lifted 250 million people out of poverty in the past five years, setting a world record.

He said that in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term, India will become a ‘Vikasit Bharat’ where there will be no more poverty, unemployment or inequality and people’s dreams will come true. “The last decade of the Modi government is just a trailer, the full movie is yet to be released,” he added.

He listed various welfare schemes introduced by the Modi government for the welfare of tribals, scheduled castes and OBCs.

Mr. Fadnavis said the Gadchiroli district, partly affected by Naxalism, would be transformed into an industrialized area in the next five years, providing multiple employment opportunities without touching tribal water, land and forests.
