The Madhya Pradesh cyber police busted a case of making fake voter ID cards ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and arrested a person from Bihar in connection with the case, an official said on Wednesday.

According to police, an unidentified person created fake voter ID cards through a fake website and the Election Commission of India (ECI) has reported the complaint to the chief electoral officers of the states. Accordingly, the chief electoral officer of Madhya Pradesh reported the issue to the state cyber police headquarters on March 30.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP, Cyber ​​Police) Yogesh Deshmukh told news agency ANI: “Based on the complaint, the cyber police registered a case under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468 of IPC and Sections 66 C and 66 D of the IT Act. National Cyber ​​Police The team started investigating, collected evidence, identified the mastermind of the case and arrested him in East Champaran, Bihar within just two weeks.”

Through the fake website created by the accused, anyone can get fake voter ID, Aadhar card, Pan card by paying Rs 20 through QR code using other person’s photo, name, address, signature, etc., officers said.

The official further said, “The accused learned to create fake websites from YouTube. The accused adopted various methods to keep his identity secret such as using fake SIM cards and having fake bank accounts. The accused has been identified as Ranjan Chaubey (20). Given the threat to national security, we are also investigating whether there was any overseas involvement.”

He added that so far, the state cyber cell is looking for people who download fake voter ID cards from fake websites.

Meanwhile, the cyber police have also advised citizens to use only official websites for printing of voter ID cards, Aadhaar cards and PAN cards.

The Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha elections will be held in four phases. The first phase of voting will be held on April 19, followed by April 26, May 7 and May 13.

Madhya Pradesh has a total of 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, making it the sixth largest state in terms of parliamentary representation. Of these, 10 seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates while the remaining 19 seats are unreserved.
