A large alligator ventured onto the runway at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida and had to be apprehended and relocated to a nearby river, authorities reported.

On Monday morning, personnel at the base in Tampa noticed the reptile next to a KC-135 aerial refueling aircraft’s landing gear, as per a Facebook post from the base.

Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were called in, successfully capturing and releasing the creature into the nearby Hillsborough River.

Wildlife experts mentioned that in April, alligators are more prone to exploring new areas as they seek potential mates.
