A landslide on the outskirts of Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla killed two workers on Tuesday morning, police said.

They said the landslide occurred around 3.30 am near a gravel crusher on Junga Road, killing Bihar natives Rakesh (31) and Rajesh (40).

According to police, some workers were sleeping in a two-story building that collapsed due to a landslide. Although five workers managed to escape, two were trapped under the rubble.

Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi told PTI that the bodies were pulled out from the rubble with the help of the state disaster relief force and fire personnel and sent for post-mortem.

The rescue operation lasted an hour. He added that further investigations were underway.

Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Magistrate Shimla have visited the spot.
