Arunachal Pradesh cabinet approves creation of two new districts

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s cabinet approved the creation of two new districts to facilitate administration, a senior official said on Tuesday. The decision to create new districts was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister on Monday.

The cabinet decided to divide Keyi Panyor district from Lower Subansiri and Bihom district from Kamun East and Kamun West districts. The number of districts in the northeastern state will now increase to 28.

During the cabinet meeting, it was decided that the Arunachal Pradesh (Reorganization of Districts) (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will be introduced in the upcoming budget session of the state assembly that will begin on February 8. Government spokesman Bamang Felix said the district headquarters will be located in Yachuli (Ter Gapin-Sam Sath region).

Felix said that in addition, as many as 67 positions have been created in the new zone, including Group A, Group B non-gazetted, Group C, MTS and ALC positions. Napangphung has been designated as the district headquarters of Bichom district.

The Cabinet also approved several initiatives in Bihom, including funding for Eklavya Model Residential School in Bana, issuance of Land Title Certificates (LPC) for land and farms of Nyishi individuals in Akha region, and funding for the construction of NH-13 from NH-13 Road to Richukrong Ring Road Headquarters to improve connectivity. The Cabinet also approved the Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Arunachal Pradesh (Land Settlement and Records) Amendment Bill, 2000 (Act No. 10 of 2000), which The bill will be tabled in the budget session of Parliament.

To strengthen fire and emergency services, the Council of Ministers also approved 53 additional posts in different categories for deployment at heliports and airports. These include 5 police officers, 6 fire adjutants, 12 police chiefs (drivers) and 30 firefighters. In addition, the Cabinet also approved the establishment of a new Judicial Court with the creation of 103 posts in different categories.
