Labor MP Kris Bryant compares Owen Jones leaving party to Elton John coming out as gay

Labor MP Kris Bryant has compared Owen Jones’s departure from the party to Elton John’s announcement that he is gay.

Mr Jones quit the party in a video message on Thursday (March 21) and launched a personal attack on party leader Keir Starmer, claiming “the party is over”.

Mr Bryant discussed Mr Jones’ decision to resign during an appearance on the show political live broadcast Monday (March 25).

The MP said: “You might have knocked me over with a feather when Owen Jones left the Labor Party. It was almost as shocking as Elton John announcing he was gay.”
