Islamabad:

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been making headlines since a video of him slapping a man surfaced online.

In the video, Mr Khan asks the man for a bottle of wine, which he says he was unaware of. The singer replied: “Main Tujih Malonga (I will beat you). “In a rage, Mr. Khan slapped the man as he walked out of the room in search of the bottle.

The video spread like wildfire on the internet and drew criticism from people around the world.

Now, King Charles’s British Asia Trust has severed ties with Mr Khan over his controversial videos, Dawn reports.

The report quoted a spokesperson for the trust as saying that the trust has a “strict policy on abuse and has ceased any contact with Mr Khan”.

“We strongly condemn any form of violence, regardless of the circumstances,” the spokesman said.

The trust reportedly issued a statement over the weekend. “We take all allegations of abuse seriously and will investigate the matter as a matter of urgency,” the statement said.

Mr Khan was appointed ambassador to the UK Asia Trust in 2017, an appointment announced by the then Prince Charles.

Amid the backlash, Mr Khan released a clarifying video with the man, who said he was a student of the singer’s.

In the video, he explained that the requested bottle did not contain wine, but instead contained holy water from a religious cleric who was reciting scriptures over it.
