Shivamogga (Karnataka):
A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home in Yadehalli village in Sagar taluk in the district, police said on Monday.
He was expected to attend an SSLC examination, police said, adding that it had not yet been determined whether he was suffering from stress as a result of the examination.
On Sunday night, just hours before he took his own life, his father and mother got into an argument. His parents had a tense relationship and often argued with each other. Police said his father was addicted to alcohol.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy had suicidal tendencies two years ago. A senior police officer said he took the extreme step of going to a train station earlier this month, but members of the public spotted him and brought him home safely.
“He was scheduled to appear for the SSLC examination and we need to investigate whether he was under any stress due to the examination. However, his parents claimed that he was doing well. But we will also explore it from that angle,” he said.
No suicide note was found at the scene, he added. Further investigation is ongoing.
