Hyderabad:
A 19-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her mother following a marital dispute at nearby Ibrahim Patnam’s residence, police said on Tuesday.
Acting on a complaint from the victim’s brother, police said the woman, a first-year undergraduate student at a private university, was strangled to death by her mother on Monday night.
The woman’s mother and other family members wanted her to marry a relative, but she objected, saying she wanted to marry someone she loved, the official said, citing preliminary findings.
On Monday, she got into an argument with her daughter when she saw her talking to her lover. Police said she allegedly strangled her daughter and later reportedly tried to portray it as suicide.
They said the mother lost consciousness after the incident and was taken to hospital.
A case has been registered at Ibrahimpatnam police station and further investigation is underway.
