On Tuesday, April 23, Julien’s Auctions announced that the priceless artwork, which is “the most important Beatles guitar ever to come to market”, would come to auction the following month.
The instrument is expected to sell for more than $800,000 and break the world record for the best-selling Beatles guitar.
In a statement, auction co-founder Darren Julian said, “Help search for John Lennon! The guitar that was believed to be lost is considered the largest discovery of a Beatles guitar since the loss of Paul McCartney’s 1961 Hofner bass guitar.
Julien added, “Finding this remarkable instrument is like finding a lost Rembrandt or Picasso, and it still looks and plays like a dream after being preserved in an attic for over 50 years. Waking this sleeping beauty is a sacred honor and a great moment for music, Julian, the Beatles, and auction history.
