JK’s final voter list published with total 86.93 lakh voters

Officials said the final voter list of Jammu and Kashmir has been published with over 2.31 lakh voters. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang K Pol on Monday said the final voter list has a total of 86.93 lakh voters – 44.34 lakh men, 42.58 lakh women.

With the release of the voter list, the way has been paved for conducting various elections in the Union Territory. An official spokesperson said, “The final voter list has been published here today in all polling stations, offices of Electoral Registration Officers, offices of District Election Officers and uploaded on the website of the CEO incorporating 2.31 lakh new voters. Is.”

According to the CEO, 86,000 names have been deleted due to death, transfer or other reasons besides correction in details of 1.45 lakh voters during the process.

“As of now, there are 86.93 lakh voters which include 44.35 lakh male and 42.58 lakh female voters. Voter population ratio has increased from 0.59 to 0.60 and gender ratio has increased from 924 to 954,” the spokesperson said.

As per the detailed instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the process of special summary revision of electoral rolls was initiated with the qualifying date of January 1, 2024.

He said that during this process, 259 new polling stations were created after consultation with political parties. The second phase activity was started with the publication of the draft voter list on October 17, 2023.

To engage the stakeholders including recognized state and national parties, District Election Officers (DEOs) held meetings with them, briefed them about the entire process to be followed and made them participate in the process by appointing booth level agents. Appealed to take, so that they can do so. To assist booth level officers in adding, deleting, correcting, transferring names of eligible voters.

As per detailed instructions of ECI, ERO accepted the claims and objections and decided on them by January 12 following due procedure. They also dealt with demographically similar entries and photo similar entries at the Part and AC level.

He said, to cover the eligible voters of Kashmir migrants, four special EOSs organized camps in their areas and the process was monitored by the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Overseas).

He said efforts were made to include specially abled persons and senior citizens above 80 years of age so that they can be included in the voter list.
