Jennifer Garner has paid tribute to her late father, William John Garner, who passed away at 85.

“We stayed with him when he left us, singing ‘Amazing Grace.’ (Did we carry him over or scare him away – a fair question.) Garner said her family is “grateful for her father’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength.” Garner grew up in West Virginia with her mother, Patricia Ann Garner, and her two sisters, Melissa and Suzanne.

She continued the tribute, “Thanks to how he teased with his impish smile and how he carved out the role of a patient father to girls. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership and faith.”

“We express our gratitude to the medical community at Charleston Regional Medical Center and City of Hope. Your care extended my father’s life and allowed him time to be in the place he loved most – surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren, serving his beloved Aggies Gas, sail a boat, and — most importantly — be next to his wife of 59 years, our mom.”

“There is so much to say about my father,” Garner wrote.

“My sisters and I will never stop talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with me,” she wrote, “but today, with gratitude for the kind, talented man, father, and grandfather he was, I Sharing these memories, and the legacy of love he left behind,” the actress concluded.
