Investigating agency raids former Tamil Nadu health minister in disproportionate assets case

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday conducted searches against AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister C Vijayabaskar and a real estate group in Chennai as part of a separate money laundering probe, official sources said.

Sources said around 25 premises are being investigated by the central agency as part of the two cases.

Vijayabaskar is a former health minister and AIADMK strongman from Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu. They said the search for him was based on a 2022 Directorate of National Vigilance (DVAC) investigation related to a case of alleged possession of disproportionate assets.

Earlier, he was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the “gutkha scam”.

Sources said premises favored by real estate group Gsquare and associated entities in and around Chennai city are also being raided as part of the investigation under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
