India’s star sprinter Hima Das will return to action at the Indian Grand Prix 1 in Bengaluru on Tuesday after the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) disciplinary panel gave her the green signal following last month’s hearing, according to sources. Hima, 24, was provisionally suspended by NADA for three whereabouts failures in 12 months last year. Her name was included in the women’s 200 meters race entry list for IGP 1 prepared by the Indian Athletics Federation on 30 April.

“He was released at the NADA anti-doping disciplinary panel hearing last month,” a source in the Indian athletics team told PTI on condition of anonymity. The source did not elaborate on how the NADA disciplinary panel cleared him to compete again.

Hima won the 400m individual silver medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. She was also part of the women’s 4×400 m and mixed 4×400 m relay quartets that won gold and silver in Jakarta.

The Assam sprinter was not named in the squad for the Hangzhou Asian Games last year due to an injury she suffered earlier this year.

She last competed in the 200m race during the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru in April last year, where she won the gold medal with a timing of 23.77 seconds. After that, she missed the entire 2023 season.

In September last year, it was revealed that Hima had committed three failures in placing in a period of one year and she was temporarily suspended by NADA.

Even at that time, there was no clarity on whether Hima’s whereabouts had failed in the filing or the test had been missed.

If convicted he faced a maximum ban of two years, which could be reduced to a minimum of one year depending on the degree of his guilt.

Under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, any combination of three whereabouts failures – filing failure and/or missed testing within a 12-month period is considered an anti-doping rule violation.

Athletes included in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) must provide the full address of their overnight location, the name and full address of each location where they train, work or conduct other regularly scheduled activities, as well as the general time frame of each activity. Will have to do. ,

RTP athletes must also identify a 60-minute window and location for each day of the quarter during which they must be available for testing. Failure to comply with detection and testing obligations will result in failure of the locus.

For the last few years, Hima has been troubled by lower back problems. Indian athletics head coach Radhakrishnan Nair had earlier said that Hima had suffered a hamstring injury just before the Grand Prix event in Bengaluru in April last year and she is undergoing “medical check-up and treatment”.

This is why Hima missed the Federation Cup and National Inter-State Championships in 2023, the final selection events for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
