IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers says passenger attacking pilot ‘unacceptable’

Last updated: January 18, 2024, 21:01 IST

IndiGo chief Peter Albers on Thursday described the recent incident of a passenger assaulting one of its pilots as “unacceptable” and said the flight cancellations have been due to fog-related disruptions in northern India in recent days. Airline operations have returned to normal. Have come down.

Speaking to media persons, he said that the airline industry has perhaps seen the worst fog in many years, affecting flight operations, which has become a challenge.

“We have all seen some situations that did not go well. We have seen some examples. Passengers were stressed and frustrated after the long wait. But I would like to highlight what an incredible job my colleagues have done, going above and beyond their normal duties…” he said.

A passenger on an IndiGo flight was arrested after he assaulted the pilot while making an announcement regarding flight delay at the Delhi airport, police said on Monday.

A purported video of the incident that happened on Sunday surfaced on social media and it showed passenger Sahil Kataria hitting the pilot who was making announcements inside the plane, which was headed to Goa.

“this is unacceptable. I have nothing else to say. It is now with the authorities. “I would like to leave it now because it is in the hands of the authorities,” Albers said.

According to him, IndiGo operates around 400 domestic routes but this is still very small compared to the size of the country.

Under this agreement, CSTPL will install a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for ATR aircraft and provide exclusive simulator training facilities for ATR pilots of IndiGo at Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The airline also announced daily direct flights between Hyderabad and Bangkok, effective February 26, 2024.
