Indian man arrested in Nepal for possessing unlicensed gold and silver

Police recovered unaccounted 7,782 kilograms of gold, 6 kilograms of silver ornaments and Rs 68 lakh in cash from his possessions.

An Indian national was arrested on Tuesday for possessing illegal gold and silver in Nepal, police said.

After receiving a tip-off, police raided a jewelry store in Pokhara and arrested 40-year-old shop owner Surjit Singh on charges of smuggling gold and silver.

Police recovered unaccounted 7,782 kilograms of gold, 6 kilograms of silver ornaments and Rs 68 lakh in cash from his possessions.

According to police, Singh, a resident of Medinipur in West Bengal, ran the jewelery store. Preliminary investigation revealed that the recovered gold and silver did not have any supporting documents.
