In bail appeal, Manish Sisodia says investigation against him is complete

New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia, who was arrested in February last year in the Delhi liquor policy case, told a Delhi court on Tuesday while hearing his bail application, There is no point in putting him in jail any longer.

Delhi’s former deputy chief minister told special judge MK Nagpal that the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation against him in the money laundering case related to the alleged GST policy scam has been completed and there is no way he could have hindered the investigation or destroyed evidence.

He also told the judge that he was prepared to abide by any conditions imposed by the court if it decided to grant him bail.

Mr. Sisodia is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Earlier, the court sent the accused to judicial custody after the ED said the case was at a critical stage and the release of the accused might hamper the investigation.

The ED’s case is based on an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation related to the excise policy.

The CBI has registered a case alleging irregularities in revising Delhi’s liquor policy, providing undue concessions to license holders, waiving or reducing license fees, and extending L-1 license without approval from the competent authority.

According to the CBI, the beneficiaries transferred “illegal” proceeds to the accused and made false entries in the books of accounts to evade detection.

The agency arrested Mr. Sisodia in February 2023, following which he was detained by the ED from Tihar Jail.
