Police investigating the remains of 35 bodies and the suspected ashes of several others at Heritage independent funeral directors in Hull said they were “unable to identify” any of the ashes found.

Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLaughlin said “extensive work” was continuing to fully identify the scene from Hessle Road, in consultation with the local Crown Coroner and affected families. The identities of the 35 deceased persons found.

ACC McLaughlin said police also received a “significant number of calls regarding suspected financial and fraudulent activity”.

He said: “This is a lengthy process and must comply with coroner’s regulations, but when completed it will provide the family with full assurance as to the identity of their loved one and their repatriation with their family.”
