Guwahati:

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has put the Congress on its toes even before the Lok Sabha election results are announced, warning his former party that several politicians in the state will Not all) The winning candidate will soon jump to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s side post-election.

Mr. Sarma launched a blistering attack on the Congress party as he launched his campaign in Assam’s Karimganj district, with his message to voters that there was therefore no point in voting for the opposition party.

“The question is whether the Congress candidate will stay in the Congress. Now, no one wants to stay in the Congress… Everyone wants to join the BJP. This time, if I can bring all the Congress Candidates from major parties… So what happens? Is there any benefit in voting for Congress?” Assam chief minister told reporters.

Mr Sarma praised the cross at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, declaring that “the Prime Minister is the sun and we are the moon” and asserted that opposition leaders “are ours… If we call, they will will join us”.

“Modilucky will become Prime Minister again, there will be no question of who is the “minority” and the “majority”. There will only be’Everyone’s support, everyone’s development” (The BJP’s slogan is “Development with all and for all”). No one is against it. They are ours and if we call, they will join us,” he said.

The Assam leader had made a similar claim in November 2020; that was before the assembly elections in which the BJP-led alliance dominated, winning 75 of the state’s 126 seats. The BJP won 60 of the 93 contests.

“Before the polls, people change their political stance and there are still some good leaders in the Congress in Assam. I have invited them to join the BJP. I am in touch with many of them…. .” he said at the time.

Mr Sarma himself quit the Congress in 2015 to join the BJP after lashing out at party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He was then seen as the mastermind behind the Congress’ hat-trick of victories from 2001 to 2011, but quit after being overlooked for the chief ministership.
