Hunter Schaeffer reveals why she turns down most roles: ‘Didn’t want to do it’

Hunter Schafer is determined to change who she is in the public eye and how they view her as a person.

“I just want to be a girl and move on,” the “Euphoria” star says in a new GQ cover story, adding that she even uses the word “transgender” sparingly in interviews.

“As soon as I say it, it explodes,” she said. “It took me a while to understand that, and it took me a while to understand that I didn’t want to be [reduced to] I find this ultimately demeans me and what I want to do. Especially after high school, I was tired of talking about it. I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am now, got through these really difficult moments in my transition, and now I just want to be a girl and finally move on. “

Schaefer is also responsible for being the youngest plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging North Carolina House Bill 2, which proposed banning transgender people from using public bathrooms.

“I felt like I had to make my art respond to what was going on in North Carolina, and that wasn’t necessarily the art that I really wanted to do,” she says, reflecting on her work as a visual artist and fashion designer. , as well as actresses and models. “I guess I was like, ‘Oh, I’m trans. I should make art about that.”

Scarver also said the transition was unusual for her. “It doesn’t happen naturally by any means,” she said. “If I let it happen, it would still give ‘transgender actress’ before every post.”
