Chandigarh:
Haryana Minister Ranjit Singh Chautala has resigned from the state Assembly, officials said on Tuesday. Ranjit Singh Chautala was nominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party as its candidate for the Hisar Lok Sabha seat after joining the party.
The independent MP from Rania seat in Sirsa district has submitted his resignation to the Haryana Assembly Speaker, they said.
Ranjit Chautala and industrialist and former Congress MP Naveen Jindal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday and were respectively appointed as the party’s Hisar ) and Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat.
Recently, former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar also resigned from Karnal MLA. Mr Khattar is contesting the Karnal assembly polls.
As an independent MP, Ranjit Chautala extended support to the BJP when the party failed to secure a majority after the 2019 assembly elections. He was later appointed Minister of Power and Prisons.
Earlier this month, the BJP unexpectedly appointed OBC leader Nayab Singh Saini to replace Khattar as Haryana chief minister, just weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha polls . Ranjit Chautala once again became the power minister in the Saini-led BJP government.
