Mumbai Indians registered a thrilling victory over Kings XI Punjab in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Thursday. While it looked like Mumbai’s total of 192/7 was enough for Punjab, the heroics of young batsmen Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma also made this game too close for anyone’s comfort level. In the final over, with power batsman Kagiso Rabada in the middle, Punjab were still in the game and needed 12 runs to win until former MI captain Rohit Sharma ) decided to intervene.

In a video that went viral on social media, Rohit was seen having a heated discussion with MI pacer Akash Madhwal, with captain Hardik Pandya also present.

The discussion paid off as Rabada ran out of steam trying to steal a double, ultimately securing victory off the first ball. His dismissal resulted in PBKS scoring 183 and thus losing the match by 9 runs.

Mumbai Indians’ leading striker Jasprit Bumrah was named the Man of the Match for his 3 wickets in the match. After the match, Bumrah admitted that the match was too close for MI’s comfort level.

“It was a close game. It was much closer than we thought. Of course, you want to make an impact when the ball does something. In this format, the ball swings twice. When I want to bowl more This format is a bit difficult for the bowlers because of the time constraints and the batting line-up gets deeper but that’s out of your control.
