Guru Randhawa says he made 150 rupees singing at a wedding when he was 9: ‘My parents wanted…’

Singer Guru Randhawa has created a sensation in the Punjabi music industry. The versatile star is now making her debut in a Hindi film titled Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay alongside Saiee Manjrekar and Anupam Kher. In a recent conversation, Guru revealed that he has been earning money by singing at weddings in his hometown since he was nine years old.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Guru said: “My parents always wanted to see me on TV. They used to make me sing at every wedding. I used to sing at all the weddings in my village and earn 100 -150 rupees or so. Somebody used to give me 10 rupees, someone would give me 20 rupees, matlab tabh se kamaai kar raha hoon main, I was in class and when I started, there were 3 or 4.”

“Rs 20-30 was a lot of money back then and I stopped asking my father for pocket money. My parents realized that this is what I wanted to do and that I was good at it, so they never stopped me from doing it,” he added .

“I remember when I first came on TV, I went to my village as they used to ask me when I would be on TV and I remember it was March 3, 2013 when I finally appeared on Punjabi TV channel and I Everyone in the village sat together and watched themselves on TV. I can’t forget how proud they are of me and I feel proud,” Guru concluded.

Since the start of his career in 2012, he has delivered hit songs like ‘Ban Ja Rani’, ‘High Rated Gabru’ and ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui 2.0’ and has become a force to be reckoned with in the independent music industry. Guru’s debut film Kuch Khatta Ho Jaay is produced by Mach Films and releases in theaters on February 16, 2024. According to the trailer, the movie is an interesting love story with a modern twist and a traditional setting.
