Gurgaon: Man charred to death after car catches fire after hitting pole

A man was burnt alive after his car caught fire after ramming into an electricity pole near a village in Sohna district, police said on Saturday.

Police said the man crashed into a utility pole and his car burst into flames as he tried to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle near the village of Lohat Key on Friday night.

They said the fire spread quickly and he died at the scene before he could be extricated from the car.

The fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control, but by then the car was completely gutted by the fire, fire official Jaiveer Bhadana said, adding that the driver was also burnt to death.

Police said the deceased was Mohit, a resident of Dora village. According to police, Mohit was driving to Sohna for work late on Friday night when he crashed into an electric pole on the roadside near Lohatki village.

They said the fire spread so fast that Mohit could not get out of the car. Hearing the crash, people from nearby villages gathered to try to put out the fire.

The villagers managed to pull Mohit out of the car, but he was dead by then, police said.

Inspector Deepak Kumar, SHO of Sohna police station, said a police team reached the spot and took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem.
