Mumbai:
Bollywood actor and former MP Govinda today joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai .
In 2004, Govinda became the candidate of the Congress Party and defeated Ram Naik, a staunch supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party, in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat and became the “giant killer”.
Eknath Shinde welcomed the 60-year-old actor to his party and called him a popular figure among all sections of society.
Govinda, who started his acting career in the 1980s, said in his speech that after first entering politics from 2004 to 2009, he never felt that he would return to the same field again.
“I am back (in politics) after 14 years of ‘vanvas’ (exile),” he said.
Govinda said that if given the opportunity, he would work in the field of arts and culture.
He pointed out that Mumbai looks more beautiful and developed since Eknath Shinde became chief minister.
