The newly built Surat Airport in Gujarat is now classified as an international airport in India. The decision comes a month after the proposal was sent to the ministry for approval. Later, after getting the green signal, the airport was declared an international airport.
While sharing the news via social media platforms, ANI tweeted an official statement from the department, saying: “The Surat Airport, Gujarat is hereby declared an international airport with immediate effect.”
The ministry informed that this decision will not only transform the tourism industry in the state but will also benefit foreign tourists. The operation will also contribute to the state’s economic growth.
Surat Airport Domestic Connections
At the same time, the airport offers flight connections to several domestic destinations. The list includes Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Goa Mopa, Hyderabad, Pune, Belgaum, Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore, Diu and Kishangarh. In terms of international routes, it provides connections to other destinations via Sharjah.

According to officials, the new terminal can accommodate more than 600 international passengers and 1,200 domestic passengers during peak hours. It can also expand capacity to 3,000 passengers. The airport has a huge runway of 2906 X 45 meters, which can accommodate code “C” aircraft.
