Tamil star Kamal Haasan occasionally forays into films from other industries. Apart from appearing in films in all four South Indian languages, he has also appeared in Hindi and Bengali films. One particular Telugu film of his that gained a cult following upon its release was the 1986 film Swathi Muthyam. The film has Kamal Haasan playing a goofball who suffers from a mental disorder due to a brain injury. The film records his journey from boyhood to octogenarian, learning various life principles along the way. Swathi Muthyam was a huge success and hence later also known as Sippikkul Muthu in Tamil.

Swathi Muthyam is inextricably linked to one of the contemporary pan-India Telugu superstars. The actor made a guest appearance as a child actor in “Swathi Muthyam”, but the cast was not credited. His role is small but integral to the plot of the film. The climax of the film shows Kamal Haasan’s character growing older and witnessing the death of his wife, who he had cared for for many years. He walked out of the house surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

One of the grandsons was none other than 5-year-old Allu Arjun, who went on to become one of the biggest stars in the Telugu film industry. In the scene, Kamal Haasan is seen walking out of the house holding Allu Arjun. This was also the only time Kamal Haasan and Allu Arjun shared screen space. A year before this film, Allu Arjun had starred as a child in the Chiranjeevi-starrer Vijetha, produced by his father Allu Aravind. An actor appears.
