guard against! This LastPass clone app may have stolen your login information: all the details

Both Apple and Google make it difficult for developers to steal apps that don’t meet their requirements, but sometimes bad actors can find loopholes to escape the eyes of app reviewers.

That’s exactly what happened when a clone of the popular password management app LastPass hit the Apple App Store.

LastPass revealed the existence of the app called “LassPass” in the App Store on its blog. The blog alert said the app copied LastPass’s design, UI and branding. Additionally, the company even mentioned links to fraudulent apps that have now been taken down.

The application may ask users to submit user login information, passwords and IDs for various websites. In turn, fraudulent developers may use this information to target users.

Imagine a scenario where malicious actors gain access to your email, banking, and social media accounts, all through an application that requests your username and password. The app might do the same thing, having login details, passwords and identities for different websites. At this time, it is unknown whether any users have fallen victim to exploitation.

“We are bringing this to the attention of our customers to avoid potential confusion and/or loss of personal data. To clarify this, we have provided below the URL of the fraudulent application as well as a link to our legitimate application so that customers can verify their Download the correct LastPass app for yourself until the fraudulent app is removed,” the blog post reads.

LastPass has also assured users that it is working to remove the app from the App Store, and so far, Apple appears to have removed the app.

In the future, if you come across an app that looks suspiciously similar to a well-known app you are familiar with, be sure to report it. This proactive step can lead to its removal, helping to prevent potential harm and loss.
