Google announced new features for Maps and Search on Earth Day (April 17). The latest update is tailored specifically for electric vehicles, allowing travelers to find specific information about EV charger locations, charging stations to plan road trips and more. The search giant will display AI-generated navigation information describing the exact location of the charger based on details from user reviews. In addition, Google Maps and Search now show sustainable travel options, including public transport and walking routes, which together with driving directions produce less carbon emissions. The update will be rolled out to fifteen cities around the world.

through a blog post, Google announced a series of changes to its Maps and Search services aimed at promoting electric vehicle use and sustainable travel for everyone. Over the next few months, Google Maps will display AI-driven summaries describing the specific locations of electric vehicle chargers based on information from user reviews. This will include details about other users’ experiences, wait times, plug types and more to better navigate to EV charging stations.

On top of that, Google Maps will soon be able to suggest nearby electric car charging stations to users on the road based on their battery level. It will display nearby chargers on an in-car map and provide details like real-time port availability and charging speeds. The feature will roll out globally in the coming months, starting with vehicles with Google built-in. Additionally, with a new electric vehicle filter, Google will make it easier to find hotels that offer on-site electric vehicle charging on search.

Meanwhile, Google Maps bring A new feature that displays public transport or walking suggestions next to driving directions. In the coming weeks, the service will be launched in more than 15 cities around the world, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, ​​London, Montreal, Paris, Rome and Sydney.

Additionally, Google has added more information about the latest train and bus timetables to Maps, including fares and links to book your trip. The feature is now available for trains in 38 countries and long-distance bus routes in 15 countries.
