Tributes have been paid to the Welsh rugby union player who died suddenly aged just 21.
Gabriel Holt played for Wigan St Patrick’s and University of Central Lancashire Wales Rugby league student team.
Born and raised in Atherton, lancashirewho qualified for Wales through family inheritance.
He made three appearances for Wales Schoolboys last year and was named in the squad for the upcoming Four Nations Championship.
His Welsh Schoolboys coach Craig Fisher said his loss of speech was “a bit of an understatement”.
“No words can express what an outstanding person you were. You were a leader, a teammate, a champion, but most importantly, a friend to everyone you met,” he said.
“It has been an honor to know and coach you. I know how proud you are to wear the red jersey of Wales and how keen you are to make it to the 2024 Four Nations.
“While it’s heartbreaking that you won’t be able to physically join us in battle, we can take comfort in knowing that our Angel Gabriel will be with us every step of the way.
“May God bless the young men. Always your coach.”

A spokesman for Wigan St Patrick’s said: “We will always be extremely proud of his achievements on and off the pitch.
They added: “His humor and love of life will never be forgotten as he lit up a room and always tried to make everyone laugh and appreciate the moment.”
