New Delhi:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three persons allegedly involved in trafficking of peacock feathers, law enforcement agencies said on Tuesday.
Revered for their beauty and symbolism, peacock feathers are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a probe into the illegal trade based on a complaint against four Delhi suspects and others involved. The defendants allegedly took advantage of these majestic birds and caused their deaths through illegal plucking of their feathers.
Investigation revealed that the defendants planned to transport the feathers to Bangkok.
The agency said about 125 kilograms of peacock feathers were recovered from the persons arrested.
In a statement, CBI officials underlined the seriousness of the crime, highlighting the ecological impact and the threat posed to India’s national bird.
The agency vowed to pursue more leads to uncover the criminal syndicate behind the incident and bring all those responsible to justice.
