Virat Kohli, who has just had a break, is in good spirits and eager to take the field when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) kick off their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign on Friday. RCB Director of Cricket Mo Bobat, who has been keeping a close eye on Kohli during training sessions, feels that the great batsman bats the ball very well.

“Virat is in a good position. We all know he is an absolute champion cricketer. So he is at a stage in his career, now in his experience stage, where most of the things he does It’s a natural. He’s coming in in a fresh way and that’s what we’re excited about,” Bobat said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the RCB Championship opener.

He added: “Kohli has had a long break from cricket. He is in good spirits. He has had great family time, he is full of energy and he is looking forward to being part of it. He has been in good spirits over the past few days. We played really well and he hit the ball really well.”

After taking over as director of cricket this season alongside new head coach Andy Flower, Bobat is excited to start his job at RCB with what he believes is a very balanced squad.

He said: “This is my first year and so is Andy Flower. We’re really excited about what’s coming in here. RCB has a very rich history and it’s important to understand that history. But this is our time…this is our time in the sun. This is our chance to go out and play.”

“We have a good group of players, we are in good form, have no injury issues, the squad is fully fit and excited to make the most of this opportunity that has been put in front of us. We will put most of our focus on how we want to play cricket ,” Bobart added.

Talking about the quality pace and spin bowling resources at his disposal, Bobat said RCB has a strong bowling attack. “We have a lot of international experience and experience of winning the IPL. We also have some quality players in our Indian speed boat who have international experience and A-team experience,” he said.

“In the spin department, we have some potential in the likes of Himanshu (Sharma) and Mayank Dagar. Guys like Karn Sharma also have a lot of experience. So we Feel like we really have a real player.” The balance is great. We also have some good all-round players who will contribute. Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green.
