On the eve of Republic Day, the government announced that 132 people would be honored with Padma awards. Among the awardees, Yang Liu, CEO of Taiwan’s Foxconn, has also been awarded the Padma Bhushan.

For the year 2024, the President has approved the conferment of 132 Padma awards including 2 doubles cases (in a doubles case, the award is counted as one) as per the list below.

A global business leader and innovator, Liu serves as the CEO of international semiconductor manufacturing giant, Foxconn.

A recognized entrepreneur and innovator with over four decades of industry experience, Mr. Liu founded three companies: a motherboard company known as Young Micro Systems in 1988; In 1995 a northbridge and southbridge IC design company focused on PC chipsets and an ITe Tech and in 1997 an ADSL IC design company, ITeX.

Young Micro Systems merged with Foxconn in 1994, and ITeX was successfully listed on NASDAQ in 2001.

According to the company’s official website, Liu is committed to the digital transformation of Hon Hai (Foxconn) and as a result, he was awarded “Digital Transformation Leadership” by Harvard Business Review in 2021.

The Taiwanese businessman earned an MS degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1986 and a BS degree in Electrophysics from the National Chiao Tung University of Taiwan in 1978.

The list includes 5 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri awards. Of the awardees, 30 are women and the list also includes 8 individuals from the Foreigner/NRI/PIO/OCI category and 9 posthumous awardees.

Padma Award – one of the highest civilian awards in the country, is awarded in three categories, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities, such as- Arts, Social Work, Public Affairs, Science and Engineering, Trade and Industry, Medicine, Literature and Education, Sports, Civil Services, etc.
