Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan calls for judicial inquiry into May 9 violence and February 8 polls

Imran Khan claims plot to dismantle his party was hatched by Muslim League-N (File)

Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday renewed his demand for a judicial inquiry into the May 9 violence and February 8 elections, urging Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Issa to listen to his party Petitions filed on these two issues.

Imran Khan, 71, told reporters after attending a court hearing in a £190 million corruption case that the agency was using the May 9 violence that followed his arrest in a corruption case as a way to dismantle Pakistan Justice Excuse party for exercise.

Imran Khan claimed that the conspiracy to disband his party was hatched by the currently ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in London and urged Chief Justice Issa to set up a The Judicial Committee came to investigate the matter.

After Imran Khan was arrested by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NCB) outside the Islamabad High Court in a corruption case, his supporters resorted to violence, burning civilian and military installations. The May 9 violence, also known as the “Black Day” violence, was used as a pretext to arrest thousands of Imran Khan supporters and his party leaders across the country.

“The culprits could have been identified through CCTV footage, but the footage was stolen. The person behind the theft of the footage is responsible for the May 9 incident,” the PTI chief said.

Imran Khan claimed that closing cases related to the Sharif family and President Asif Ali Zardari was “part of London’s plan”.

He said the PTI would not consider the Senate elections legitimate as the National Assembly was first and foremost a “rigged product”.

Replying to a question on last week’s US Congressional hearing on the password controversy, the PTI chief said it would be a disaster for the Biden administration if US diplomat Donald Lew expressed Washington’s support for overthrowing his government.

The cricketer-turned-politician claimed that “Lu did not disclose the facts before the congressional hearing because it would be damaging to the Biden administration.”

Imran Khan said Asad Majeed, Pakistan’s former ambassador to Washington, had informed the National Security Council about Lew’s “threatening tone.”

The jailed former prime minister said he was not responsible for the security of the code – secret diplomatic communications – because protocols were in place to securely keep secret documents.

He rejected an investigation by the Election Commission of Pakistan into the allegations of fraud, saying it was unable to conduct an “impartial investigation” now that it had conducted the exercise.

Separately, Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi told the media that Imran Khan is “physically and mentally healthy” in prison.

However, she also said that if “something happened” to her husband, Army Chief of Staff General Saeed Asim Munir, Inter-Services Intelligence Director Nadeem Anjum and the Minister of Counter-Terrorism would be responsible.

“The state will not tolerate incidents like this,” she said.
