Former Madhya Pradesh MLA receives Rs 140 crore fine for alleged illegal mining

The Indore district administration has issued notices to former MP Sanjay Shukla, who has quit the Congress party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, and three others, proposing legal action against them for allegedly illegally mining ‘murum’ (mixed ) soil and stones and imposed a fine of Rs 14,060 crore. Wednesday.

They said the mining department detected illegal mining at two sites of 5.50 hectares and 3.40 hectares in Baroli village adjoining Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

Officials said a fine of Rs 140.6 crore is proposed to be imposed on Shukla and three others under the Madhya Pradesh Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules 2022 for the illegal mining.

Apart from Mr Shukla, other respondents in the notice include his brother Rajendra Shukla, chairman of Eden Garden Housing Co-operative Society Limited, and Mehaban Singh, a resident of Baroli village, they said ·Rajput.

The notice stated that about 400,000 cubic meters of “murum” and 223,000 cubic meters of stone were illegally mined in two places in Baroli Village. Accordingly, it is planned to impose a fine of 140.6 billion rupees on the defendants. .

The former Registrar and three others have been asked to appear before the court of the additional district magistrate (ADM) of the government on April 19, failing which ex-parte action will be taken in the case, officials said.

When asked about the matter, Sanjay Shukla told Press Trust of India (PTI), “I have not received any notification (about illegal mining) so far. Only notifications Only then can I comment on it.” In the 2023 Lok Sabha elections, senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya won the Indore 1st seat by 57,939 votes, defeating the then Congressman Sanjay Shukla.

Mr Shukla quit Congress on March 9, nearly three months after his poll defeat.

Mr. Vijayvargiya, who is currently attending the state cabinet meeting, was among the leaders who welcomed him to the BJP during an event in Bhopal.
