India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created a big record during the fourth Test against England in Ranchi on Sunday. On the third day of the competition, Ashwin struck three times in the second session as India restricted England to 120/5 at tea. During his three-wicket burst, Ashwin became India’s leading wicket-taker in home Tests. Ashwin took his 350th, 351st and 352nd wickets to overtake former India captain Anil Kumble in the elite list. Kumble, who represented India from 1993 to 2008, took 350 wickets in Tests on home soil.

Ashwin is now the only player for India to take more than 350 Test wickets. He took the wicket of Ollie Pope to achieve this feat.

Most wickets for India in home test

Ravichandran Ashwin – 352*
Anil Kumble- 350
Harbhajan Singh – 265
Kapil Dev – 219
Ravindra Jadeja 206*

On the opening day of the fourth Test, Ashwin also took his 100th Test wicket against England. He became the first player to complete a century of wickets for India against the Three Lions.

Last week, Ashwin reached the 500 Test wicket mark on the second day of the Rajkot Test and also attended the press conference after the end of the day’s play, but due to some emergency he had to return home. He returned home on Sunday and took his 501st Test wicket, prompting his wife Prithi to pen an emotional note.

It is not yet completely known what the emergency was like for Ashwin and his family, but his wife Prithvi summed up the nature of the situation, saying that those were the longest 48 hours for the family.

“We chased 500 till Hyderabad, but it didn’t happen. Till Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just bought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home for 499. 500 came and went quietly. Till it happened Didn’t happen. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48 hours of our lives,” Ashwin’s wife Prithvi wrote in a post on Instagram.

“But it’s about the 500. And about the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What an amazing boy. I’m so proud of you Ravi Ashwin. We love you!” He added.
