Fires in Delhi have killed 39 people and injured more than 100 since January, the report said

Fires in the capital have killed 39 people and injured more than 100 so far this year, official figures showed on Thursday.

According to data released by the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), 16 people lost their lives in fires in January, 16 more in February and seven in March till Thursday.

Fire accidents injured 51 people in January, 42 people in February and 14 people as of March 14, the report said.

From January 1 to March 14, the Field Service has received 2,682 fire-related calls.

Two children and a couple died due to suffocation in a massive fire that broke out in a residential building in Delhi’s Shahdara Shastri Nagar area on Thursday.

In another major incident, 11 people were killed in an explosion and subsequent fire at a paint factory in Alipur’s Dayalpur market outside Delhi. The fire that broke out on February 15 injured four people.

The charred bodies of 11 victims (10 men and 1 woman) were found inside the factory, which also houses a chemical warehouse.

The fire was preceded by an explosion and spread to nearby buildings, including a drug treatment center and eight shops. A police officer was also injured in the fire, including burns.

In another incident in February, an 83-year-old woman jumped to her death from the fourth floor of a residential building in Dwarka, southwest Delhi, and her granddaughter was injured after a fire broke out in her apartment.
