Farmer leaders have announced a suspension of the Delhi Chalo March till February 21 after the central government came up with a protest against the new scheme of minimum support price (MSP) for crops that farmers have been demanding.

The protesting farmers said they need time to study the government’s MSP proposals before deciding on the future course of action.

A group of Union ministers, including Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityanand Rai, met leaders of protesting farmers in Chandigarh on Sunday for the fourth round of talks.

After the meeting, the Union ministers proposed a five-year plan to purchase pulses, maize and cotton crops from farmers at minimum support prices.

At the end of the four-hour meeting, Goyal said “innovative” and “innovative” ideas were raised during the discussion, adding that farm leaders would take a decision on the proposal by Monday morning.
