Premier League struggling Everton revealed an £89.1 million ($112 million) loss for the 2022-23 season in its latest financial accounts on Sunday. Everton’s losses have increased significantly from the 2021-22 season, when their accounts showed a deficit of £44.7 million. The Goodison Park club blamed the indefinite suspension of sponsorship deals with key commercial partners for mitigating the mounting losses. Everton’s latest accounts also reveal a huge investment in the club’s new stadium, with its financial position under scrutiny.
The Toffees have until April 8 to deliver a verdict on a second charge of breaching Premier League profitability and sustainability rules.
In addition to the six points already deducted for breaches related to the 2021-22 season, they may also be hit with further points deductions.
Under PSR rules, clubs can lose up to £105m over three seasons, or £35m per season, before facing sanctions.
Everton currently sit 16th in the Premier League table after beating Bournemouth 2-1 away on Saturday.
Sean Dyche’s side are just three points above the relegation zone with nine games remaining.
Major shareholder Farhad Moshiri, who has been under fire, said earlier this week that he still believed 777 Partners’ long-term takeover of the club would be completed soon.
