A 17-year-old boy has admitted killing a schoolgirl in south London last year.

In September, 15-year-old Elianne Andam was stabbed multiple times as she walked to school in Croydon.

She died near a bus stop near Whitgift shopping center during the morning rush hour.

The 17-year-old defendant, who cannot be identified because of his age, pleaded not guilty to murder but to manslaughter when he appeared at the Old Bailey via video link on Thursday morning.

The trial will take place on November 25 in the same court.

The boy also denied possessing a blade in a public place.

Police responded to the incident on Wellesley Road within two minutes but Elianne, who had been stabbed in the neck, was pronounced dead at the scene at around 9.20am.

Elianne went to the old palace of John Whitgift School and was attacked with a foot-long knife.

Elian’s family said days after her death: “We are heartbroken by the senseless death of our daughter.

“Elianne was the light of our lives. She was smart and funny and had many friends who loved her.

“She was only 15 years old and she had her whole life ahead of her, full of hopes and dreams for the future.”
