The roof of a double-decker bus was completely ripped off after it crashed into a low railway bridge in West Lothian.

police Scotland A 59-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and will be reported to the prosecutor fiscal, it said.

The incident happened on the B7010 at Fauldhouse at around 6am on Monday morning.

West Lothian Council shared a photo of the severed roof and debris online, noting: “Thankfully we understand the bus was empty at the time.”

Police confirmed there were no reports of injuries.

The road at Foldhouse train station was closed while clean-up crews dealt with the chaotic situation. It has since reopened.

West Lothian City Council said Network Rail had been asked to assess whether there was any structural damage to the bridge and that trains were said to be operating “normally”.

Network Rail has been contacted for comment.
