Jaishankar is on an official visit to China to attend the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting. He reached Beijing after concluding his visit to Singapore. It is also his first visit to China since the Galvan Valley confrontation in 2020, which is seriously tense between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar, along with other SCO foreign ministers, met Chinese President Xi Jinping.

He traveled shortly after the recent visits to China by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, both participated in the engagement related to SCO in June.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is also expected to visit India to meet NSA Ajit Doval next month. The meeting will be part of the Special Representative (SR) dialogue mechanism with the aim of resolving the long -standing border dispute between the two countries. (AI)
