On October 17, James Day’s Haunted Woods in Kahanawa, west of Montreal – a popular outdoor Halloween attraction known for its spooky walks and scares – faced a real-life horror story.
A fire broke out at the site, threatening to end this year’s horror season before it even started.
Thanks to the quick and dedicated efforts of event organizer James Day and local volunteers, the Haunted Woods rose from the ashes. They worked hard on renovations and improvements, and got the site ready to welcome visitors once again for a wickedly good time.
New twists and scary upgrades
Day also took the opportunity to make several upgrades. This year’s Haunted Woods features new pathways, a redesigned layout – which included the removal of an old wall – and creepy new twists designed to keep visitors guessing.
The Haunted Woods will be open October 30th and 31st, ready to deliver scares, thrills and plenty of Halloween spirit.

Thursday Special Show: Honoring a Father’s Legacy
Thursday, October 23, marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of Day’s father, whose memory is closely linked to James Day’s Haunted Woods. In his honor, the day is hosting a special roadside Halloween show, held outside in the forest.
The event featured a large projector slide show highlighting 20 years of scares from 2005 to 2025, as well as a 13-foot monster projected above the crowd. This tribute will give visitors a chance to reflect on two decades of horrific memories and the man who helped inspire them.

Haunted Drive-By: Spooky entertainment for everyone
Recognizing that not everyone can navigate the haunted forests – including visitors with disabilities or those who don’t like to walk through them – Day offers frequent haunted drive-bys.
This option allows guests to enjoy the scares and thrills from the safety and comfort of their vehicles, making the event more accessible to everyone.
Extra scares and free treats
In addition to the main shows, Haunted Woods is also playing extended shows in November. There will be a special children’s show on Friday, November 1 from 1pm to 4pm, followed by a final full show from 7pm to 10pm.
Guests visiting on Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1 can also enjoy a free meal as part of the festivities.
