A Russian drone crashed into an apartment building in the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa on Saturday, killing at least two people and injuring eight others.

Odessa officials said a man was rescued alive from the rubble of an apartment building.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on the social media platform Telegram that 18 apartments were destroyed.

“Russia continues to fight civilians. An enemy drone hit a residential building in Odessa,” he said.

Zelensky announced on Friday that he and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte had signed a security agreement to provide $2.2 billion in military aid to Kyiv this year.

Zelensky announced details of the plan on his social media account after the two leaders met and held talks in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city. Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second largest city and a frequent target of Russian attacks.

“The document stipulates that the Netherlands will provide 2 billion euros in military assistance this year and further defense assistance over the next 10 years,” Zelenskiy said in the post. He also posted a copy of the agreement on the president’s official website.

Ukraine warned last month it had received less than a third of the 1 million rounds the EU had promised to deliver and was struggling to hold on to its defences.

It withdrew troops from the eastern town of Avdievka in February as it struggled to obtain ammunition, giving Moscow its first major territorial gains in more than a year.

Zelensky posted a video on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, of the two touring the city, which included some of the 20,000 buildings that Zelensky said were destroyed in the Russian attack.

Zelensky added that they visited residential buildings destroyed by Russian shelling in January. The attack killed five people and injured 14 others, the website said.

Rutte and Zelensky also visited special classrooms in subway stations, where approximately 858 students in 40 classes can continue their education in relative safety.

Meanwhile, the United Nations coordinator for Ukraine, Denis Brown, posted on social media on Thursday condemning the deadly attack in the eastern region of Kharkiv.

“Local authorities reported more than a dozen casualties, including a child who was killed. Civilian infrastructure was also damaged,” Brown said.

She added that attacks in the Donetsk and Kherson regions on Wednesday and Thursday “also caused massive damage to civilian infrastructure and civilian casualties.”

Brown said local authorities reported more than 100 homes were affected, as well as schools and other facilities.

She reported that humanitarian staff were on site to provide support to affected communities, including providing construction materials and psychological support.
